Life Without Limbs: Overcoming Hopelessness

Without any medical explanation or warning, Nick Vujicic was born in 1982 with a rare disorder characterized by the absence of all four limbs. The son of Serbian immigrants, Vujicic spent most of his childhood struggling with depression, but after a suicide attempt, he decided to concentrate on what he did have instead on what he didn't.

In this TED Talk, Vujicic reflects on the importance of parenting in early childhood and its significance in overcoming hopelessness. He notes that willpower is a driving force for making our big dreams come true—but if we don't get a miracle in life, we can always be a miracle to someone else. Today, he realizes that his life story has the potential to inspire many.

Through his ministry, Life Without Limbs, Vujicic shares his message of hope all over the world, giving talks at schools, churches, prisons, orphanages, hospitals and stadiums in 69 countries and counting.
